This source shows 4 men confessing their crimes in a public show trial. This however is not true, Stalin tortured and threatened them so that the would lie about committing crimes. This was so Stalin could execute them legally. I chose this source at it shows how people fear Stalin to the point they would lie about committing offences. Stalin abuses his power which is not beneficial to the USSR as he is not using his authority for good but to eliminate those who oppose him.
This source shows 2 women digging up soil. In the past women only had to stay at home and take care of the children and the house. Stalin built childcare centres to allow women to have the time to work, however, it was poorly maintained as the children were not taken care of properly. This only increased the workload of women as they had to work in the workforce and care for their children at the same time. I chose this source as it shows the efforts of how Stalin wanted to create a communist country by making the gender roles equal, however it was not beneficial as it just shows that Stalin only cared about the boost in economy and not the children.
This source shows the amount of people Stalin killed. Stalin killed millions of people to gain the loyalty of the citizens, however , the citizens only obeyed him as they feared they would end up dead. Stalin would kill those who oppose him by using inhumane ways such as purges and show trials. I chose this source as it shows how ruthless Stalin is as he killed millions of people to get what he wanted. He did not care about the people and does not feel remorse from killing them. Stalin is unable to sympathise with his people which is not beneficial for the USSR as the people lived their lives in fear.
The source shows the labour and hardships the Russians had to go through. The kulak's valuables were confiscated by the government and over 3 million people died by being exiled or executed. This led to the Great Famine as many peasants burned their grains and killed their livestock so it could not be confiscated, over 7 million people died due to starvation. I chose this source as it shows how the Russians suffered during Stalin's rule and how many died from starvation. Many people starved to death as the government confiscated their valuables, causing Russians to destroy the food to prevent the government from taking it away. Stalin's rule was not beneficial as many people suffered and starved because of what he wanted
This source shows Stalin presenting the 'Great Pyramids'. Many people died under Stalin's rule which is shown by the mountains of skulls. Stalin does not look disturbed by the fact that there are thousands of skulls before him and remains nonchalant about it, in fact he is showing it off to the people. This is a clear indication on how cruel and evil Stalin was as he did not care about the amount of Russians that died and were killed during his rule. I chose this sources at it clearly shows the large amount of lives loss due to Stalin's rule and the lack of concern Stalin shows towards those who died. It shows that Stalin's rule was not beneficial as he let thousands of Russians die and was not bothered by it which is not something a good ruler would do.
The source shows Stalin being looked up to by numerous people and a words surrounding him that states "His work and teaching". This poster was created to boost Stalin's popularity and portray him as a good leader. It was to make him appeal more to the citizens so that he would gain more followers and it would be difficult to over throw him. I chose this source as it showed how people looked up to him and thought about him. This was not beneficial as it misled people into thinking he was a great leader and that what he did was law.
Stalin killed millions of people to gain control over the Soviet Union. He led the citizens by fear and was a ruthless ruler. He only cared about the economy and not the well-being of his people causing millions of Russians to die at his hands. He created inhumane ways to eliminate those who opposed him like show trials and purges. In conclusion,Stalin was not the saviour of USSR even though he helped the economy grow by a large margin, it cost the lives of millions of people
