From this picture, I could see 3 women working selflessly and had determined expressions on their faces, showing how passionate they are towards their jobs. Before Stalin's rule, women were not mostly encouraged to enter the workforce to work but instead they should let the men do the work and stay at home being a housewife or domestic leaders. However, when Stalin came into power he actually encouraged women and allowed them to enter the workforce so they could become productive members of the economy. Women then became from domestic leaders to working in factories, changing gender role quickly in a short period of time. This also make the country even more industrialized, also making women have more control over their lives without any restrictions or interference.
In this cartoon, Stalin is being depicted as a spider on a world globe. It is trying to show that Stalin is trying to conquer the world under his policies and pose him as a fear since he is being depicted as a spider. In the Soviet Union, everybody are always living in constant fear under Stalin's rule. People feared him as Stalin is always all out to eliminate people ( anti-Stalin sentiment ) who opposed against him especially when his secret police is always everywhere to watch onto these people. This then made Stalin in to a unbeatable figure whom is always ready to conquer the whole world with its power.
This is a newspaper article about the Great Famine in 1932.It shows dead horses that are really thin and on the brink of the death and similarly on the person at the left side of the article. The heading "Six million perish in Soviet Famine. Peasants' crops seized. They and their animals starve." talks about how much the people had suffered due to the famine as well as how it had caused millions of death due to the extreme shortage of food. This is particularly because the state had sold the grain to overseas to raise more fund for the machinery and development in preparation of WWII instead of distributing it to the people to fill their stomachs. Hence causing a huge social impact on its people where the famine carried on until 1934 and growing amount of deaths.
This short 4 minute video concludes about how Stalin had came to power and the impacts it had on its people it also shows the different views people had of him during the interview in this video. Stalin had a tough life when he was young but came to power during the Russian revolution. He was known as the master of skills of being a manipulator. Although he did increase the food but millions of kuklaks had died under his policies as well as the forced industrialization that also caused hundreds of millions of deaths. Nobody was safe from his ambitions. Everybody feared Stalin and he was known as the man of terror. However he had actually brought Soviet Union from a minor region power in Europe to a global superpower.
In this picture it shows the child survivors who survived the Great Terror that Stalin had imposed to consolidate his power. The looks and expressions on the children faces were sad and expressionless this is probably due to the loss of their parents during the Great Terror from 1934-1938. The Great Terror was an incident that includes execution of people who opposed against the Soviet Government or Stalin's leadership. Thus this probably where the children lost their parents. The title " Silence was Salvation" also speaks a lot of the Great Terror. It shows that people either had to remain silent or opposed the Soviet government otherwise they would be killed or sent to labor camps. Thus it had a political impact as many people at that may have opposed against Stalin's dictatorship.
The heading at the bottom of this source 'Viktor Ivanov", meaning "Thank you Stalin!". Through the heading it was as though trying to show the amount of gratitude the people has for Stalin for his contribution. Similarly in this cartoon,Stalin is seem to be posed as a fatherly figure of the Soviet Union as he is seen to be carrying a girl of the right side of his shoulder posing as a humble and proud gentleman. From here,I could also infer that this source is also the same as of a Propaganda that Stalin uses to promote himself as well as to build up his own profile as the rightful successor to Lenin. Stalin make use of propaganda and pictures extensively to prove his own leadership skills and how he could bring Soviet Union to greater heights under his control since he claimed himself to be a father to his people. These measures taken boosted his authority he has as well the present status he had at that time, thus making a huge political impact within the party as well as the people.
To conclude, I do not think Stalin was a savior of USSR. Although he did many contributions and sacrifications and managed to make Soviet Union into a much more industrialized country he actually neglected the lives of millions' . Under his numerous policies he caused millions of death and had them received unfair treatment as well. Due to his own selfishness and one-sided thinking he only make decisions and rules that he thinks would benefit him the most as well as one that could make him into a reputable and unbeatable man. He took advantages of crucial moments making him into a great manipulator and got him into a higher level of fear towards the people. Stalin shows no grace and any hint of empathy to any people and goes all out to achieve his wanted goals and ambitions that he has set for himself and the Soviet Union thus neglecting the welfare of the people. Hence this factors does not contribute to Stalin being a savior of USSR but a threat and fear that has been cultivated among the people thus not making a good leader for the Soviet Union.
