Even after slavery ended, down in the south people of color felt they were still being treated like enslaved people. There were not many people of color up north so they didn't have a problem with them... until they started moving up there...
Men and other women who didn't care about their rights saw what the other women were doing as a bunch of beef, but they were doing much more. People just didn't understand that not all women want to be all dolled up all the time.
Watch this video and understand the pain women went through to get there rights. Everyone thought women were a bunch of saps but that's all wet. Women are just as hep and swell as the men. The men would either punish or high hat the women and that's not okay.
