Prisons very much the dominant focus in the media this week with the publication of the HMP Nottingham inspection which set off the first "urgent notification" in January with the Chief Inspector requiring the Justice Secretary to act promptly to tackle a failing prison. In the report Chief Inspector Peter Clarke asks directly whether the large number of suicides were linked to dismal conditions in a violent jail.
In other news, a Panorama investigation questioned why, with recorded crime increasing again, the number of criminal charges in England and Wales was dropping.
